Hello, I am Janet Garcia, writer and creator of Things I Wish I Knew.

Since I was a child, I dreamt of becoming a writer. Well, I dreamt of becoming A LOT of things. A mother, a lawyer, an ice skater, etc. However, my life, like many, has not been the easiest, and I struggled. I want to share my experiences, advice, offer coping mechanisms, but honestly, just let others know that they are not alone and that there is more to their story.

I have a background in mental health, criminal law, and education. I currently am a doctorial candidate for Public Administration. I am a Master of Public Health, Bachelor of Psychology, Associate of Early Childhood Education & Social and Behavioral Sciences.

As someone who has a mental health diagnosis, as a single parent, as a child of immigrants, as someone who was raised in poverty and gang territories, as a sexual abuse & domestic violence survivor, as someone who attempted suicide and was unsuccessful, as someone who failed out of school, as someone who has been fired, as someone who was rejected by their parent, as someone fighting generational trauma. This blog is for someone like you, or someone you may know.
